Wetherspoon Slashes Prices for a Day

Print
News: September 2017

Pub chain Wetherspoon is supporting the latest initiative to cut the VAT imposed on food and drink in pubs by slashing the prices of its own food and drink provision for one day.

To mark Tax Equality Day on Wednesday, 20 September, Wetherspoon pubs will reduce prices by 7.5%.

At present, food and drink in pubs and restaurants is subject to VAT at 20%, whereas supermarkets benefit from a zero VAT rate. Wetherspoon founder Tim Martin believes that tax equality between pubs and supermarkets would generate growth and create jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector.
