US Beer Wins International Beer Challenge

Firestone Walker’s Union Jack has been judged supreme champion beer at this year’s International Beer Challenge.

After winning the trophy for best ale above 5%, the Californian beer saw off challenges from other trophy winners that came from Colorado in Brazil, Nøgne Ø in Norway, Harvey’s and Tiny Rebel in the UK, Lidskoe in Belarus, Mahou in Spain and Birra Antoniana in Italy.

The award for overall brewer of the year in the competition was presented to the North America brewer of the year, Boston Beer (Samuel Adams), with other continental awards presented to Anvil Ale House (Africa), Pirate Life (Oceania), Brasil Kirin (South America), Birra Antoniana (Europe) and Taiwan Head Brewers (Asia). UK Brewer of the Year was Harvey’s.
