News: August 2017

To celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary, Surrey brewery Hogs Back has sold beer for 1992 prices in a handful of local pubs.

The Tongham-based brewery made the offer for one night, with a pint of its flagship beer TEA on sale for £1.30.

As well as marking the company’s birthday, the move was designed to highlight the amount of tax that is now charged on a pint of beer. According to Hogs Back managing director Rupert Thompson, duty and VAT on a pint of TEA today amount to £1.36 –  more than the total cost of the beer back in 1992.
